The treatment
Deep tissue massage is a technique of manipulating the musculoskeletal system that helps a muscle recover when it is tight or fatigued. By releasing knots, it can ease pain and give back mobility to the back, arms, legs and feet.
At the Crigan Massaggi studio the treatment is based on targeted finger pressure on trigger points, the spots where muscle tension builds up, and it suits athletes as well as people with physically demanding or desk-bound jobs.

Benefits
These are the main benefits of the treatment given by Mihail Crigan, and you notice them more with regular sessions.
By releasing knots, the massage helps ease muscle pain in the back, arms, legs and feet.
The strokes encourage blood flow to the treated muscles, and this helps them recover.
The treatment also supports lymphatic circulation, which helps drain fluid from the tissues.
After strain and fatigue, the treated muscle recovers more quickly and goes back to work with less effort.
With less tight muscles, mobility improves and everyday movements become easier.
Besides the effect on the muscles, the session brings a pleasant feeling of relief and well-being.
When to have it
Deep tissue massage is useful when muscles work under strain for a long time or stay in the same position for hours. These are the situations in which Mihail Crigan recommends it most often.
When your job puts heavy demands on your back, legs or arms, even well-trained muscles tighten up over time: movement becomes tiring and aches appear, especially in the evening.
Sitting for most of the day, at a desk for example, puts constant stress on muscles and bones: the back stiffens and tension and aches set in.
Standing for long periods also puts pressure on the muscles of the back and legs. Deep tissue massage helps release the knots that build up day after day.
The treatment also suits athletes, to loosen muscles tired from training. If you train regularly, you can also consider the sports massage, which supports preparation and recovery.
To keep things from getting worse over the years and to help prevent more serious back problems, Mihail Crigan recommends making time for sport and having deep tissue massage sessions regularly.

The technique
A muscle knot (contracture) is an involuntary, prolonged contraction of a muscle, which stays stiff and sore even at rest. Deep tissue massage works on exactly this tension, to help the muscle relax and regain its elasticity.
Trigger points are the spots in a muscle where tension builds up. During a deep tissue massage Mihail Crigan treats them with targeted finger pressure, to help the muscle let go of the contraction.
While you work, your muscles are warm and you hardly feel the pain. In the evening they cool down and the knots built up during the day make themselves felt as discomfort and stiffness. It is a physiological mechanism: the more a muscle works under strain, the more it tends to tighten.
When the pain is muscular, releasing knots can help you take fewer painkillers. If you are following a treatment, though, every change must be decided with your doctor. To find out more, read the article on painkillers and massage for muscle pain.
The session
At your first deep tissue session Mihail starts from where you feel pain: back, arms, legs or feet. It is not a “routine” full-body massage. If a spot is too sore, the pressure is adjusted. After the session your muscles may feel a little tired: this is normal and usually passes within a day.
Every deep tissue massage session at the Via Monginevro 76/F studio follows four steps, and you are always treated by Mihail Crigan in person.
Mihail Crigan asks where you feel pain, for how long, and about your work and sport habits.
The massage works on the knots with finger pressure on the trigger points, using only 100% pure organic oils.
At the end of the session you get advice and stretching exercises to do at home, so the benefits of the massage last longer.
If the complaint needs a closer assessment, a consultation with a physiotherapist and a physiatrist is possible, thanks to the collaboration with Dr Oriano Casamenti of STUDIO RONEFOR.
How often can you have it? Deep tissue massage is a treatment focused on pain: you need at least 3 days between sessions, so no more than two sessions a week. Relaxing massages, on the other hand, have no real limit. More answers about sessions, the menstrual cycle, heat and cold are in the massage FAQ.
