The treatment

What is Ayurvedic massage and what is it for?

Ayurvedic massage is an ancient Indian massage that brings together many different manipulations. According to the Ayurvedic tradition, these movements act on the chakras, regarded as a person's vital points, with the aim of rebalancing body and mind.

In practice, the movements stimulate blood circulation and warm the body, encourage the drainage of excess fluid and, together with the oil, take care of the skin.

That is why Ayurvedic massage is especially suitable for people with low blood pressure who often feel the cold. At the Crigan Massaggi studio a cinnamon essential oil can be added, which heightens the feeling of warmth and makes the treatment even more pleasant.

  • You want circulation, warmth and skin care with oil.
  • You are looking for a balancing massage, not trigger point work.

Another treatment is better if

The problem is a tight muscle

Benefits

What are the benefits of Ayurvedic massage?

Crigan Massaggi's Ayurvedic massage combines relaxation with real work on circulation and muscles.

Boosts blood circulation

The manipulations get the circulation going and warm the body: a relief for people who often feel the cold.

Helps reduce muscle tension

It works on tension and knots without causing pain: it is also suitable for people who are very sensitive to deep pressure.

May help relaxation and sleep

It helps you let go of the tensions of the day and find a state of calm, which can also help you rest better.

Less swollen legs

The draining movements can help reduce swelling in the legs, with benefits for the appearance of cellulite too.

Supports lymphatic circulation

By stimulating lymphatic circulation, the massage helps the body get rid of excess fluid.

Care for skin and scalp

The oil takes care of the skin, while the movements on the scalp ease tension in the head and give a pleasant feeling of relaxation.

Who it is for

When should you have an Ayurvedic massage? Who is it for?

Ayurvedic massage is a versatile treatment that Crigan Massaggi recommends above all in these situations.

You have a low pain threshold

You need to release muscle tension but could not bear a deep tissue treatment: Ayurvedic massage is not painful, yet it still works on muscle knots.

You often feel the cold

You have low blood pressure and struggle to warm up: the movements get the circulation going and warm the body.

You have swollen legs or excess fluid

The draining movements over the whole body help reduce excess fluid and the feeling of swelling.

Discover manual lymphatic drainage too

You have never had a massage

It is an excellent start: a gentle treatment that lets you discover the benefits of massage without pain.

You want relaxation, but also work on your muscles

It is the right choice if you prefer a relaxing massage but do not want to give up a treatment that works on muscle tension.

You want to switch off from stress

If you reach the end of the day tense and find it hard to relax, Ayurvedic massage can help relaxation and sleep.

How to choose

Ayurvedic or deep tissue massage: which should you choose?

Both help release muscle tension, but with a different approach. Deep tissue massage works deep into the spots where tension builds up and can be demanding for people who are sensitive to pain.

Ayurvedic massage, on the other hand, is not painful but still helps release muscle knots. If you are not sure which to choose, describe your problem to Mihail Crigan when you book: he will suggest the most suitable treatment.

Why does Ayurvedic massage also treat the scalp?

Compared with other treatments, Ayurvedic massage pays special attention to the scalp. The movements on the head help ease the tension that builds up there and give a feeling of relaxation and pleasure.

The session

What happens during an Ayurvedic massage session at Crigan Massaggi?

At your first Ayurvedic session Mihail asks whether you feel the cold or have low blood pressure: the treatment is warming, and cinnamon oil can be added. There is no trigger point work. Every client is then looked after individually, with the utmost professionalism and confidentiality. The session has four stages.

  1. 1

    Listening

Mihail Crigan asks you what problems you notice and what your habits are, and checks that there are no contraindications.

  2. 2

    60-minute massage

The treatment lasts 60 minutes and is done with 100% pure organic oils; if you feel the cold, cinnamon essential oil is added.

  3. 3

    Advice and exercises

At the end of the session you get advice and stretching exercises to do at home.

  4. 4

    A specialist, if needed

If the problem calls for a more thorough assessment, a consultation with a physiotherapist and a physiatrist is available, thanks to the collaboration with Dr Oriano Casamenti of STUDIO RONEFOR.

How often can you have an Ayurvedic massage?

Ayurvedic massage is a relaxing, painless treatment: for massages of this kind there is no real limit on frequency. Massages aimed at pain, such as deep tissue or neck massage, need at least 3 days between sessions, so no more than two sessions a week. You will find more answers in the frequently asked questions about massage.

Safety

When should you avoid Ayurvedic massage?

Before starting, Mihail Crigan checks that there are no conditions that rule out the treatment.

Ayurvedic massage is not recommended:

  • if you have scars;
  • if you have a fever;
  • if you have fragile capillaries;
  • if you have high blood pressure or cardiovascular disease or problems.

If in doubt, ask your doctor before booking and tell Mihail about any health problems or ongoing treatment.
