What it is

What is Thai Oil Massage and what is it for?

Thai massage is an Eastern technique based on manipulation along the body's meridians, with pressure on the points of greatest tension. It helps reduce back pain, leg pain and muscle aches in general.

Thai Oil Massage combines these techniques with the properties of essential oils, to bring relief to body and mind after every treatment. The hand techniques are friction, pressure and gentle stretching positions: that is why it works so well as a draining and knot-releasing massage.

At the same time it is a relaxing massage: thanks to the essential oils it helps you switch off from stress and find the balance between mind and body again.

Choose it if

You want pain relief, drainage and relaxation together

  • You like pressure, stretching and essential oils.
  • You want a massage that loosens and relaxes at the same time.
  • You are not after a single goal (only sport, only the neck, only lymphatic work).

You have one clear goal

Benefits

What are the benefits of Thai Oil Massage?

These are the main benefits of Thai Oil Massage:

Fewer muscle aches

Pressure on the points of greatest tension helps reduce muscle aches, especially in the back and legs.

Better circulation

Friction and pressure encourage circulation in the areas treated.

More toned muscles and skin

The techniques and the oils, 100% pure and organic, help tone the muscles and the skin.

Relaxation

The rhythm of the massage and the essential oils help you relax and find the balance between mind and body again.

Less excess fluid

The draining action of Thai Oil Massage helps the body get rid of excess fluid.

Who it is for

When should you have a Thai Oil Massage? Who is it for?

The depth of the techniques and the essential oil change depending on what you are looking for. Thai Oil Massage is a good choice if:

You have muscle tension or aches

Back pain, tension in the legs or muscle aches in general: pressure along the meridians works on the points of greatest tension.

You want to relax

The massage becomes less deep and is combined with aromatherapy using eucalyptus essential oil. For a treatment devoted entirely to relaxation there is also the Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage.

You have never had a massage

Thai Oil Massage is also recommended for people trying massage for the first time.

You want a complete treatment

Knot-releasing, draining and relaxing all at once: an “A to Z” massage.

Thai Oil and traditional Thai

What is the difference between Thai Oil Massage and traditional Thai massage?

Thai Oil Massage comes from traditional Thai massage, but with some important differences:

Traditional Thai massage

  • it takes place on the floor, on a futon;
  • you receive it fully clothed;
  • no oils are used.

Thai Oil Massage

  • it takes place on the massage table;
  • essential oils are used;
  • the properties of the oils make the treatment more effective.

Which essential oils are used in Thai Oil Massage?

Sweet orange, for tension in the legs

If you have muscle tension in your legs, sweet orange essential oil is added to the knot-releasing techniques; it is credited with pain-relieving and antispasmodic properties, so the effect of the hands and that of the oil add up.

Eucalyptus, to help you relax

If you want to relax, the massage is less deep and uses eucalyptus essential oil, known for its relaxing effect and because it stimulates breathing: a true aromatherapy treatment combined with massage.

Essential oils are natural substances, each with different properties: that is why they are chosen each time according to the person and the goal. At the Crigan Massaggi studio only 100% pure organic oils are used.

The session

How does a Thai Oil Massage session at Crigan Massaggi work?

At your first Thai Oil session Mihail chooses the oils based on what you are looking for: loosening up, draining or switching off. There is pressure and a little stretching on the massage table, not just gliding strokes. Every client is then looked after individually and thoroughly, with the utmost professionalism and discretion. The session has four stages:

  1. 1

    Listening

    Mihail Crigan asks what tension you feel and whether you are mainly looking for muscle relief or relaxation, to choose the depth of the techniques and the essential oil.

  2. 2

    60 minutes on the massage table

    Pressure along the meridians, friction and gentle stretching positions, with 100% pure organic oils and essential oils such as sweet orange or eucalyptus.

  3. 3

    Advice and exercises

    At the end you get advice and stretching exercises to do between sessions.

  4. 4

    Physiotherapist and physiatrist, if needed

    If the complaint needs a closer assessment, a consultation with a physiotherapist and a physiatrist is possible, thanks to the collaboration with Dr Oriano Casamenti of STUDIO RONEFOR.

How often can you have it?

If you have Thai Oil Massage for aches and knots, it is best to leave at least 3 days between sessions, so no more than 2 sessions a week. If you have it to relax, there is no real limit. You will find more answers on the massage FAQ page.
