Bodybuilding and hypertrophy: muscle recovery and deep tissue massage in Turin

In Turin's gyms, bodybuilding seeks targeted mechanical and metabolic stress to make muscles grow. This article explains, in plain terms, what happens in the fibres during Time Under Tension and when a deep massage at the Crigan Massaggi studio can complement your recovery days.

What hypertrophy means, in practice

Bodybuilding isolates muscle groups (pecs, lats, delts) and plays on time under tension. The lowering phase of the lift, the eccentric phase, stretches the sarcomeres while they resist the weight. At rest, the body repairs that micro-stress by synthesising contractile proteins: this is the popular explanation of hypertrophy, not a guarantee of «gains».

A growing muscle can also build up tension and fascial adhesions. It becomes less elastic and its range of motion shortens. This is where work on the tissues comes in, not as a substitute for training.

Risks in the weights room: see a doctor first

Overload, poor mobility or sloppy technique can lead to strains, tendinitis (often of the long head of the biceps), shoulder impingement or sacroiliac discomfort under heavy squats. Massage does not «prevent disabling injuries» and does not repair a tear.

Sharp pain, sudden loss of strength, swelling or a snapping joint: see a doctor. Then, if only tension remains and there are no contraindications, a session can be considered.

Deep massage at the studio in Turin

The deep work offered by Crigan Massaggi is the deep tissue massage and, depending on the area, the sports massage. It is used to release adhesions and trigger points, not to «maximise growth».

A more comfortable range of motion helps you train better. Massage does not compromise anabolism, nor does it speed it up in any way this page can measure: it supports perceived recovery and local blood flow. Ideal on rest days, away from the workout for the muscle group just massaged.

Session: 60 minutes, 60 €, Via Monginevro 76/F. See also neck massage and the Journal.

FAQ

Does deep massage stop muscle growth?

No. Reducing stiffness and improving comfort does not hold back your training. It is not, however, a hypertrophy stimulus in place of the weights.

When should I have a massage?

On recovery days or well away from the workout for the area being treated (for example: legs on chest day).

How much does it cost?
